The application is managed by the consulate of your main destination country. This checklist helps you arrive at your appointment with everything in order.
Step 1 — Choose the right consulate
Apply at the consulate of the country where you will spend the most days. If you stay an equal number of days in multiple countries, apply at the first country of entry.
Most applications are lodged through an official visa application centre such as VFS Global.
Step 2 — Prepare your documents
Gather your passport, application form, photos, travel insurance (minimum €30,000 cover), proof of funds, employment proof, itinerary, and accommodation bookings.
UAE residents typically also need their Emirates ID and UAE residence visa copy, plus a no-objection letter where the consulate requires it.
Step 3 — Attend the appointment
Bring originals and copies. Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are captured at the centre.
Under EU rules, decisions are normally made within 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 days in individual cases.
